Introduction of New Bi Metallic One Pound Coin - 2017

As you may be aware the Royal Mint has provided a detailed timetable for the introduction a new Bi Metallic 12 sided version of the £1 coin into UK circulation in March 2017

At this stage we have the “Trial Piece” samples required to allow us to carry out full calibration testing.

The new coin appears similar in shape and size to the old Three penny piece from pre decimalisation but is made of two metals, like the current £2 coin.

The coin acceptance mechanisms in our current Solitaire Payphone range (Solitaire 2000, 6000 / 6000HS) use a sophisticated set of induction coils to evaluate metallic content of coins that pass through the runway.

The Royal Mint has confirmed that from the Autumn of 2017 the current £1 Coin will be demonetised and have its legal tender status removed Royal Mint new Leaflet pdf
